National COVID-19 Research Platform
The Australian Alliance for AI in Healthcare (AAAiH) is creating a National COVID-19 AI Research Platform to support the global and national COVID-19 response. The Platform will fast track access to and development of clinical AI and data analytic technologies to assist decision making by clinicians, researchers, public health officials, industry, NGOs and government. It will aggregate information about the many different COVID-19 algorithms and data sets available to the community, and provide a directory service that matches up skilled researchers with COVID-19 projects.
The Platform is hosted on existing infrastructure structures using Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet).
We have four project teams working collaboratively to deliver the National COVID-19 AI Research Platform comprised of volunteers across our AAAiH membership. Access to the Platform will initially be available to AAAiH members.
This team is tasked with providing the infrastructure and cloud services to support the Research Platform. The team consists of research scientists and industry providers working together to design a secure platform to host the information collected.
This team is creating a registry of COVID-19 related Australian public and private datasets. The Dataset listing will be made available via the Platform to researchers and data scientists to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to support decision-making. Ultimately this listing is intended to form part of an internationally curated public repository.
This team is collecting a list of algorithms developed to support COVID-19 decision making, with details including developers, the methods and dataset(s) used, potential risks of bias, any evaluations undertaken, ethical framing, and details on access to the algorithm. Independent assessments of each algorithm will also be undertaken.
People, Ideas, Machines Team
This team is creating a registry of researchers interested in working on COVID-19 related projects, with details of their skill set, experience, and the type of work they are interested in doing. The registry will also be expanded to collect research projects looking for assistance, with details of the missing skills or resources.
