In 2023, the Alliance delivered a highly successful national policy roadmap to guide early-stage national regulation and governance of healthcare AI. We are now embarking on our third policy roadmap, building on this previous work. Much has changed in the last 2 years with accelerated progress in areas such as professional codes of practice and regulation.
The glaring gap right now is our limited capacity nationally to bring AI into routine practice across the healthcare system.
To better understand these implementation challenges, and the policy gaps that need to be addressed, we surveyed the AAAiH membership for their views in July and August this year. We thank the 96 organisations who responded with thoughtful and detailed perspectives on what you think needs to happen now.
We are currently in the midst of analysing responses, and have an emerging set of priorities, which will be tested through a series of key stakeholder interviews and targeted workshops. The AAAiH community provided priority rankings for different policy domains and as in previous years, quality, safety and ethical use if AI retained top rank as an area of concern requiring more effort.
Our goal is to have a soft launch of the Roadmap 3 recommendations in November of this year at the AI.Care conference in Brisbane and finalise the Roadmap for a formal February 2026 launch. We are planning on sharing the draft roadmap with the AAAiH community later this year, to ensure we have correctly captured your priorities. In 2026 we will be taking Roadmap 3 internationally, by conducting a Delphi survey with respondents invited from around the world. The goal of this exercise will be to take Roadmap 3 and develop formal guidance on safe and effective implementation of AI in clinical settings.
